SCR Multiswitch

SCR Multiswitch

New Channels are now able offer you twin feed capabilities down a single cable on your existing IRS system.

How?

Using next generation technology we are able to install an innovative new multi switch that will allow twin feed capabilities down a single cable.  We can add the switch to your existing IRS system without the need to enter dwelling.  Residents will then be able to utilise the benefits of having a twin feed such as Sky+ HD.

Cost?

This is a very affordable and cost effective solutions to an age old problem that has plagued managing agents for years.

Technical Data

For the first time ever, a single cable multi-standard switch will enable the following options:

  • Legacy (meaning conventional volts and tone)
  • Bskyb SCR propriety command
  • CSS European norm for non Sky receivers.

Because the switch is multi-standard it can be retrospectively fitted into existing systems without the need to enter the dwellings. Sky+ SCR enablement can then be carried out at a later date.  The unit has been designed to accept a wide range of satellite input levels (60-90dBuv) by the use on-board ALC satellite amplifiers powered by the receiver.  This removes the need for any user adjustable controls.  Terrestrial signals are passed passively and may require separate amplification. LNB powering if required is achieved by connecting a simple PSU.  A simple splitter is the only item required within the users dwelling.

  • SCR mode enabling Sky+ on a single cable
  • Automatic gain control offers the same satellite level across the system
  • No proprietary equipment required within the dwellings
  • Dedicated DC input for LNB powering

BBC launches news app for connected TV

The BBC has launched a BBC News app for connected TV which will bring video news clips via the web to living-room TV screens.

The new service combines existing video and text content from BBC News Online and will initially be made available on Samsung's range of Smart TVs.

The app has been designed as a complement to the BBC's live 24-hour news channel. Editorial teams in the newsrooms will curate clips to run alongside text-based news from BBC News Online.

Phil Fearnley, General Manager for News & Knowledge in BBC Future Media, said: "Internet-connected TV is developing as a medium and presents an exciting and engaging complement to our existing TV services. As we've seen with BBC iPlayer in the UK, and our global smartphone applications, audiences enjoy the freedom and flexibility of BBC services at a time and place that suits them—whether on the move or on the living-room TV.

"Looking forward, we are particularly interested in creating seamless, personalised, and location-aware experiences of BBC News across all connected devices—mobiles, tablets, computers, and TVs."

The BBC News app is now available free of charge from the Samsung Apps Store. BBC Worldwide will also launch an international version of the product which will be advertising supported.

Nottingham turns on to switchover

digital switchoverFreeview viewers reminded to retune as signal is boosted

Thousands of TV viewers in the Nottingham area will need to retune their TVs and boxes today as digital switchover kicks off in the Central TV region.

The switch will see analogue TV turned off forever and Freeview digital TV signals boosted. It‟s the biggest change to television since the introduction of colour, increasing viewers‟ basic line-up of channels from four to more than 40.

The old BBC Two analogue service was switched off for good in the early hours of this morning. The second and final stage of switchover takes place on 13 April 2011 when all remaining analogue channels will be switched off permanently.

Any of the 74,000 viewers watching digital TV via an aerial (Freeview, Top Up TV or BT Vision) from the Nottingham transmitter will need to retune today to pick up channels which have moved to new frequencies.

Digital Switchover Sheffield

What happens during switchover?

The Sheffield transmitter and its 1 relay (known as a transmitter group) switch to digital in two stages. If you have Sky TV, Freesat from Sky or freesat on all of your TV sets you will not be affected by switchover.

However, if you haven't yet got digital TV in your home or you have a service like Freeview, BT Vision or Top Up TV, there are two dates you will need to remember and you need to be ready before the first switchover date.

BBC Two will go to digital and some new digital channels become available. This means that:

  • If you haven’t switched, you’ll lose BBC Two
  • If you have Freeview, BT Vision or Top Up TV you’ll need to re-tune your equipment

All the remaining analogue channels will switch to digital and the remaining digital channels will become available. This means that:

  • If you haven’t switched to digital, you will lose your TV service
  • If you have Freeview, BT Vision or Top Up TV you’ll need to re-tune your equipment again

What happens between the two switchover dates

If you have Freeview, BT Vision or Top-up TV for the first time, to watch the full range of channels between the two switchover stages you will need to switch between analogue and digital. Click here to see how to do this.

Do I need a new aerial?

Whether you need a new aerial for switchover will depend on the condition of your aerial and where you live, find out more. Some households watching main transmitters may need a wideband aerial to receive all the channels available. If you are watching the main Sheffield transmitter, after switchover you will need:

  • a Group A aerial to receive around 15 digital TV channels
  • a A wideband aerial to receive more than 40 digital TV channels

Use our postcode checker for your predictive channel and service coverage and which aerial is needed at your address

What happens after switchover?

If you are watching the Sheffield transmiter group using Freeview, Top Up TV or BT Vision, you will need to re-tune your digital TV or box on this date after switchover to continue receiving all available services.

  • 27 September 2011

This re-tune is required because of technical changes linked to digital TV switchovers in neighbouring areas.
